The Best Ways to Utilise Sheepskin Slippers

In order to help you make the most of your sheepskin slippers, we’ve made the following guide.

All of our products here at Jacobs & Dalton are 100% real sheepskin and we deliver quality material for our customers. Our cosy unisex sheepskin slippers are our most popular choice!

Are sheepskin slippers worth it?

Sheepskin slippers are an excellent, long term investment due to it’s amazing properties, warmth and comfort – not forgetting they’re hard-wearing and can last a very long time providing you look after them.

The high-quality sheepskin that Jacobs & Dalton ethically source alongside the natural dyes used during the tanning process, produces a comfortable and durable product that is designed to last.

How do I know my slipper size?

Choosing the perfect size for your new Jacobs & Dalton slippers couldn’t be easier, most of our slippers are  true to UK sizes but we have an excellent guide for you to use here: sheepskin slipper size guide

We also have a size guide for you to make sure you are getting the best fit possible: sheepskin slipper size comparison

Should you size up for sheepskin slippers?

If you are in-between sizes, then you may want to size up for maximum comfort, however, most of our slippers are true to UK sizes.

The super fluffy wool inside of our slippers will compress over time and will quickly mould to the shape of your foot. The sheepskin exterior will also gently soften over time for maximum comfort for over many years.

Our moccasin slippers do have a narrow fit across the instep so we would suggest sizing up from your normal size if you desire a looser fit.

After washing a sheepskin rug, the fibres lose their lanolin, causing the skin over time, to look dull and matte.

Should you wear socks with sheepskin slippers?

While ultimately this is completely up to you, there is no need to wear socks with your slippers. Sheepskin naturally draws moisture (AKA sweat) away from the skin which leaves your feet feeling dry all day.

Also due to the natural thermostatic regulating properties of sheepskin, they will keep your feet feeling cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter without the need to wear socks.

How do you care for sheepskin slippers?

Jacobs & Dalton slippers are made from genuine sheepskin which, while very durable, needs regular care and attention to remain at its best. For light maintenance, to keep your sheepskin slippers looking in their best condition, we suggest regularly using a suede brush to remove any dirt that could damage the natural sheepskin.

You can do this by carefully wiping them with a cool, damp cloth or sponge, using a specialist cleaning solution if desired, but this isn’t necessary. A final once over with a suede brush will help your slippers to maintain their soft outer finish.

To remove watermarks, slippers can be dampened evenly all over with a cloth dipped in clean, cold water. Since sheepskin is porous, soaking them or popping them in the washing machine could damage this natural material so be careful not to use too much water; they can then be left to air dry with a rolled-up small towel or newspaper inside them to help keep their shape.

We recommend leaving your slippers to naturally air dry for 24 hours away from direct sunlight or heat.

We have developed a product care guide for you which can be found here: care for sheepskin

Do sheepskin slippers smell?

Due to the amazing qualities of natural, genuine sheepskin, lanolin (a natural wax) is found in the fibres which offer amazing natural antibacterial and self-cleaning properties.

This keeps your feet fresh and prevents any unpleasant odours. Sheepskin also combats the growth of mold and mildew which makes our slippers a great choice for people who suffer from allergies.

Can you wash real sheepskin slippers?

We do not recommend putting your slippers in the washing machine as this can be damaging due to the natural porousness of sheepskin, however, if you would like to wash your slippers we recommend doing so by hand.

Not only is this better in general for your sheepskin products, but it’s also controllable, meaning your sheepskin can be treated with care.

For a light clean simply gently brush the surface of the slipper to remove any dirt, you may then apply a clean damp sponge with a small amount of specialist cleaner and carefully wipe, being careful to remove any residue and excess water with a clean dry sponge.

To dry we recommend stuffing the inside of the slippers with a small rolled-up towel or newspaper and leave to naturally air dry for 24 hours away from direct sunlight or heat. Once dry, you can gently brush the slippers in one direction with a suede brush and apply a water-resistant spray if you desire.
